Scene on Screen

The East of England Development Agency (EEDA) has funded a two-year project to develop an interactive movie map for the East of England which launched in October 2009.

The website contains over 520 film and television productions which have filmed in the East of England along with over 600 of the region’s locations that have subsequently appeared on screen. The locations listed are either accessible to, can be seen by, or are actually open to the public.

Scene on Screen also promotes hotels, B&Bs and self-catering cottages that have hosted famous cast and crew during filming, along with those used as locations themselves. In partnership with Exemplas, the county tourism officers and East of England Tourism, Screen East has populated the website with the region's extensive filming heritage. Screen East’s locations team will continue to update the site with new releases anticipated to have popular appeal, along with further scene information as it becomes available and images.

Lord Iveagh, EEDA board member said, "Scene on Screen demonstrates the wealth of extraordinary locations found in the East of England and will help increase the revenue of a wide variety of small businesses right across the region. It will encourage even more visitors to come and stay and spend money in the region, boosting a sector which is worth more than £5bn a year to the regional economy."

Finally, Scene on Screen forms a component of Screen East’s locations team’s strategy to enhance the region’s existing film-friendliness still further and attract more production. Scene on Screen can do this by illustrating not only the economic benefits filming can bring through production (business tourism), but also through the multiplier effect of TV/film tourism.
