Classic Horror Films on the Big Screen

Classic horror films are films which seek to elicit negative emotional reaction from those watching the movie by sending out a message playing on the viewer primal fears. Some of the themes that features in these movies are supernatural and the macabre which sometimes startle the viewer and are sometimes overlapped with a little fancy and thriller.

Horror movies deals with the viewer’s hidden fears, nightmares, terror and revulsion of the unknown. The plot within these horror movies often involves events, or personage, supernatural background and evil forces. These themes include serial killer, cannibals, monsters, zombies, vicious animals, ghosts, werewolves, curses, vampires, demons, gore and Satanism. On the other hand, all supernatural stories are not necessary horror movies. Viewers like horror movies because it relieves their tension. For instance, having the glimpse of your own death only to find out at the end you did not die. It gives tension, heart racing actions, put the viewers in suspense and yet pay off in a satisfying ending.

One of the best horror movie ever made is The Night of the Living Dead which is a great zombie film . The radiation from a star which fell from the sky might have caused the dead to rise from their grave and look for the living to be used as food. This black and white movie displayed gruesome scenes of the dead eating the living alive while other tried to survive by hiding in houses and where they felt safe.

Another classic big screen horror movie is The Exorcist. In The Exorcist (1973) noticeable changes take place in a 12 years old girl. These changes were dangerous and dramatic, which takes effect on her behavior and physical make up. She became violent to those who came into contact with her and could only be saved from the demon within her by a priest had experience with exorcisms.

Some other classic horror movies are The Shining and Psycho. All of these movies left their viewers satisfied yet wanting more which is why after so many years they are considered some of the best horror movies ever made. So if for some reason, you haven't seen one of the above mentioned movies and you are a fan of horror films, you should consider viewing one of them.
